This paper presents a brief history and an overview of the current state of psychological research in Mexico. The different areas of research are reviewed outlining the development as well as the trend of research in each area. Major theoretical, methodological and practical problems faced by psychologists in conducting research in Mexico have been enumerated. These issues relate to: (a) the problems originating from the general condition of scientific research in the country, (b) the characteristics of the institutions where psychological research is conducted, and (c) the intrinsic aspects of the discipline and its practice in Mexico. The propositions and considerations for future research have been discussed.
